Grove City Church of the Nazarene
Design and Ministry Needs
Church relocations are no simple task. To efficiently reach the potential of a new facility, and to minimize the inevitable disruption of construction and moving, thoughtful planning is critically important. Often, master planning is divided into separate phases that help churches achieve manageable growth. This can be the most effective and prudent way to achieve the God-given vision for a new property.
Like many churches, Grove City Church of the Nazarene entered its first phase of major construction needing to meet current ministry requirements, while providing space for new ministries as well. Such challenges can strain any Phase 1 budget, let alone the projects to follow. With the experienced guidance of the McKnight Group, GCCN’s steady expansion has resulted in substantial member growth. Creative, flexible, multi-ministry buildings allow the church to serve people seven days a week.
Highlights
Between 1988 and 2003, McKnight Group has helped GCCN achieve six major building phases totaling 224,260 square feet. The Master Plan has resulted in four multi-ministry spaces for various age groups, a 3,200-seat performing arts worship center, classrooms for a Christian School of 700 students, and an incredible preschool children’s building with a food court and very popular commons area.
The colorful children’s building has been a significant draw to new and potential within Grove City and other Columbus, Ohio suburbs. Its modern play space rivals those found in any local family fun center – and GCCN makes them free to anyone who chooses to enjoy them. This welcoming environment has encouraged countless families to join the church and strengthen their relationships with the Lord.
Results
Grove City Church of the Nazarene is a perfect example of how the McKnight Group enables ministries with buildings that work. When the church relocated to its Phase 1 building in 1988, it had about 400 members. With each new phase, ministry opportunities and attendance grew. Today, weekend services attract nearly 4,000 worshippers. And as an active participant in the McKnight Group’s Church Health Services, God continues to bless GCCN’s efforts with new faces at the church each week.
